The Manatee Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has announced its leadership lineup for the upcoming year, with District 4 Commissioner Mike Rahn taking the helm as Chair for 2024. This decision was made on the December 12, 2023 Board Meeting.
Outgoing Chair, District 3 Commissioner Kevin Van Ostenbridge, expressed his confidence in the transition, saying, “I think we’ve reached a point of calm water.” Commissioner Van Ostenbridge’s tenure as Chair will conclude at the end of the year, paving the way for Commissioner Rahn to assume his new role on January 1, 2024.
District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard will take up the role of First Vice Chairman of the Board, while District 5 Commissioner Ray Turner will serve as Second Vice Chairman. District 1 Commissioner James Satcher will serve as Third Vice Chairman.
In addition to their roles within the BOCC, commissioners will also assume responsibilities in various county bodies. Commissioner Van Ostenbridge will transition to the role of Chairman of the Manatee County Port Authority, where he will be joined by At-Large Commissioner Jason Bearden as Vice Chair and Commissioner Turner as Second Vice Chair. Furthermore, District 2 Commissioner Amanda Ballard will serve as Third Vice Chairman of the Port Authority.
Commissioner Turner will take on an additional leadership role as the Chair of the Tourist Development Council (TDC). Commissioner Ballard will represent the BOCC as the alternate representative on the TDC.
With this new leadership lineup, the Manatee County BOCC is poised to continue its commitment to serving the community and addressing the various challenges and opportunities facing the county in the coming year. The commissioners are ready to collaborate and work towards the betterment of Manatee County in 2024.
