Manatee County Launches Final Phase of 44th Avenue East Extension Project
The start of the final phase of the 44th Avenue East extension project marks a continuation of Manatee County’s ongoing infrastructure development throughout county. The project, which began in 2013, is now entering its most crucial stage with the start of construction on the last segment that will bridge the gap over Interstate 75.
This final segment, extending from the west to the east side of I-75, is a key component in the $160 million venture aimed at enhancing local transportation. The extension is expected to accommodate an additional 36,000 vehicles per day, significantly easing the traffic load on parallel routes such as State Roads 64 and 70, which currently bear a combined excess of 21,000 vehicles daily.
Manatee County At-Large Commissioner Jason Bearden, who presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, expressed his excitement about the project’s potential to alleviate traffic congestion throughout the county. He emphasized the decades-long planning that has gone into this development and expressed optimism about the positive impact it will have on local transportation.
District 5 Commissioner Ray Turner also highlighted the benefits of the project for his district, noting that the new extension will act as a vital connector between the two existing thoroughfares, thereby facilitating smoother east-to-west travel.
The project’s advancement is a testament to the county’s commitment to improving its infrastructure and addressing the growing traffic demands in the region. As construction progresses, local authorities are taking steps to minimize disruptions and ensure the project’s timely completion.
