George R.R. Martin Reveals Final ‘Game of Thrones’ Book Will Have Different Ending Than TV Series
George R.R. Martin is managing expectations.
The author sat down for an interview with WTTW, Chicago’s PBS affiliate.
During the conversation, he discussed the upcoming final two books in the A Song of Ice and Fire series that inspired the HBO hit series.

“When they began the [TV] series, I had four books already in print, and the fifth one came out just as the series was starting in 2011,” he said.
“I had a five-book head-start, and these are gigantic books, as you know. I never thought they would catch up with me, but they did. They caught up with me and passed me,” he continued.
He also confirmed the show’s storyline ended up “going in somewhat different directions” than he intended.
“So, I’m still working on the book, but you’ll see my ending when that comes out,” he said. However, he did not clarify when the final two books will see the light of day.
An actress from the show also just weighed in on a particular scene that is generating some attention.
