TRACKING THE TROPICS: Low pressure wants to become a tropical depression
Follow Melissa on Facebook here or Twitter hereLow pressure off the Florida coast about 160 miles east of Daytona Beach is slowly meandering to the west. Fortunately, it’s in an area with drier air in the upper levels, which has limited convection around the center in turn keeping the system below tropical depression status even though winds are 35 mph. Right now it’s at a 50% chance of strengthening and become a tropical depression in the next two days. Most of the activity from this system is to the east and south of the center, which is good news for us because the latest models show the activity wanting to turn northwest toward us the next couple of days. Here we’ll feel the winds shift from the east-northeast to the southeast and scattered shower chances return too.The winds won’t be as breezy as yesterday but at the coast they’ll stay 10-15 mph out of the northeast, and we’ll continue to have a moderate risk for rip currents to finish the weekend. It’s perfect weather today to be outside. Low 90s for a daytime high actually feel close to the low 90s with the easterly breezy.Don’t get used to it, though! A summer-like weather pattern returns tomorrow with rain chances scattered all over the forecast.Stay safe!-Melissa
