US Weekly justice editor Marjorie Hernandez wrote on Twitter: “Sources have confirmed to @usweekly that #BritneySpears and her lawyer just filed a petition to terminate her conservatorship. Details to come,” later adding: “Update & clarification: At the end of business day, the petition had not been filed, but sources said the termination paperwork has been prepared. #BritneySpears #FreeBritney.”
Fans also noted earlier in the day that TMZ and Page Six briefly published reports that the paperwork had been filed, before the reports were removed.
“Echoing my awesome former coworker @MJae13, the paperwork is done and ready for the court, but it was not formally processed through the system by the time the courthouse closed today. This explains why TMZ pulled its premature story. Patience, y’all. It’s happening. #FreeBritney,” wrote Page Six‘s Nicholas Hautman.
The reported petition to remove the conservatorship follows after Britney‘s headline-making explosive testimony at a court hearing on Wednesday (June 23).
“I need your help…I don’t really honestly know what to say, but my requests are just to end the conservatorship without being evaluated, I want to petition basically to end the conservatorship. I don’t want to be evaluated, to be sat in a room with people for hours a day, like they did me before,” she said during the testimony, in which she alleged that the conservatorship under her father Jamie Spears was abusive.
Her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, also spoke out after the testimony amid backlash, after Britney called out her family and management, saying to the judge: “I would honestly like to sue my family, to be totally honest with you…my dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship and my management who played a key role in punishing me — ma’am, they should be in jail.”
Here’s what Britney was spotted doing after the testimony. She also has another request right now!
