Bob McCann has committed malpractice against the Republican voters of Manatee County. McCann was lucky enough to get elected when the voters were frustrated with several sitting commissioners. McCann, the Illinois transplant, then decided before he was sworn in that he would attempt to get hired by the incoming Trump administration. After the Trump team investigated his background, they refused to hire McCann.
McCann then decided to attempt to be a Chicago type puppet master and assert control over the Manatee County Board of County Commissioners. McCann was able to get Carol Felts to fall for his charm and then Bearden fell head over heels in love with McCann.
The rest of the BOCC was not as captured by McCann because they saw his lack of taking the job seriously. He failed to show up for numerous commission meetings and was not thought of as a responsive commissioner. He did capture the heart of Joe McClash and the two of them decided that they would endorse Democrats for office from our area.
When McCann endorsed Charles Smith it became clear that he was not a serious commissioner. The voters agreed when they studied his attendance records and noticed that he never failed to cash his county paycheck.
The wannabe puppet master enjoyed his time in the limelight but the voters decided that the people he endorsed were not the best to represent our area. His endorsement has turned out to be a lead weight for several candidates.
