The mainstream media has become so infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome that it refuses to acknowledge and report on the ways the Trump Administration is making the federal government more efficient.
One improvement initiated by the Trump Administration is the raising of the standards used to hire federal civilian employees. Centuries ago, tests were introduced to be used in hiring federal employees. These tests were instituted because so many Presidential Administrations were simply hiring political cronies for federal jobs and many were totally unqualified for the work they were doing. These tests measured a person’s understanding of written language, their ability to derive general principles from specific data, their ability to analyze and draw conclusions, their quantitative/problem-solving skills and their reasoning abilities.
The objective of these tests was to make sure the federal government was hiring people qualified to accomplish the tasks needed by the government. The tests were very predictive of how successful the potential applicants would be in their jobs.
In the 1970’s, a lawsuit was filed that asserted that the tests had a disparate negative impact on the hiring of Blacks and Hispanics. The US Supreme Court at the time of the lawsuit allowed disparate impact to be used in determining the legality of employment testing. As a result, the federal government entered into a consent decree that ended the employment tests for federal employees. At the same time the laws were passed that made it nearly impossible to fire federal employees.
The result of the lack of job testing in the federal workforce has been predictable. The federal workforce has become bloated and inefficient. During the Biden Administration, the civilian federal workforce numbered 2,300,000.
Whenever a problem developed, the federal government merely added more employees to address the problem. They never reduced the number of employees in areas that did not need the federal workers.
During the 2nd Trump Presidency, there has been a decidedly different approach to the federal workforce. First of all, private businesses have realized that they probably have too many employees for what they need to accomplish their goals. Elon Musk gave the business world a perfect example when he assumed control of Twitter (X). Musk released 70% of the workforce and the company grew substantially. This gave the private business world a real life example of how easy it is to become top heavy with employees.
When Trump was sworn in the second time, he had a plan for reducing the federal bureaucracy and making it more efficient. He appointed Scott Kupor the head of the Office of Personnel Management. Kupor was a venture capitalist prior to his government service.
Kupor and Trump’s plan was to hire competent people and fire incompetent employees. The standard federal government plan of hiring more employees to address new issues was no longer in vogue. Tests have been reinstated for potential federal employees.
The first tests were instituted for hiring employees who work with software. During the prior decades, a job applicant was only ASKED if he was competent in working with software. Surprise, surprise, the federal government was full of incompetent software engineers.
Merit pay has been introduced for the first time. (For my Democrat friends like Kerry Kirschner, that means you get more pay for doing a superior job) The federal civilian workforce has been reduced from 2,300,000 to 2,000,000. This has been the largest reduction in the history of the United States.
The Trump Administration has been developing more tests for future government employees. This will insure that the federal government has skilled workers who can get the job done for the benefit of the taxpayers. If one questions the skill of federal employees, go visit the Social Security office. This is not an indictment of all federal employees. The majority of federal employees are smart and hard working. They have been given a bad reputation because the Democrats like Kirschner and Jolly have fought all attempts to introduce accountability to the federal workforce.
I understand that many people are put off by the bombastic personality of President Trump. The reality is that his personality has allowed him to be a disruptor of our inefficient federal government. The Democrats like Valerie Jarrett, who were in charge during the Biden Administration, refused to do anything to get rid of incompetent federal employees. This led to a bloated and inefficient federal workforce.
The Trump Administration has brought in successful business persons to give a new mission to the federal workforce. This will be one of the great accomplishments of the Trump Administration and all Americans will be the beneficiaries.
