Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been the topic of much public discourse over the past weeks. Another term that has entered the public discourse is Effective Altruism (EA). EA is the belief that young wealthy tech people are the best people to direct how AI should be incorporated into our society.

These young tech employees believe that they are smart enough to develop AI so they should be the ones to control how it is used. Their true belief is that the public should defer to their ideas on how to control AI. Most of these young tech entrepreneurs are leftists who believe that the idea that America is special is an outdated belief. One look at this group helps one understand that these people are not who most Americans want making decisions regarding something as important as how we deal with AI.

This same behavior was evident during the COVID crisis when the intelligentsia told us they knew best and would tell us how to behave during the pandemic. The intellectual giants told us that we could not visit our grandmother in a nursing home but you could join a thousand people at a Black Lives Matter demonstration. Because of their misguided belief in their own intellectual prowess, they used their political power to cancel anyone who questioned their guidelines for COVID.

As a result, schools were closed for years in some states and they only reopened when some Governors ignored the advice of the intelligentsia and reopened schools without the dire consequences that had been predicted.

Artificial intelligence is an area that has been researched for decades. Many dire predictions about job losses from AI have not been accurate. Many of the narratives around the negative impacts of data centers have also been exaggerated.

The leading companies in the AI field are Anthropic and Open AI. These companies have spoken at length about the dangers of the products they are developing. The safety of the public relies on these two companies policing themselves to not introduce products to the public that are not safe. This is not a novel concept.

If an automobile manufacturer determined that a vehicle in production had major safety concerns, they would defer production until the issue was resolved or face huge liability issues. It appears that Anthropic and Open AI want the government to set the standards so that they can be given immunity from lawsuits if the public is harmed by people using their products. The leaders of these two companies may be of high intelligence but they cannot understand the simple principle that if you are developing a product that is inherently unsafe, they should slow down the process until the engineers can develop guardrails that protect the public.

Anthropic is actually saying that they cannot guarantee that their product is safe while they are asking investors to give them TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS! Many Wall Street firms are willing to take the risk because they think they can make billions of dollars. The government should not agree to set standards that give these companies immunity from product liability.

Eventually, AI will have a positive impact in our lives but it will also have the ability to be intrusive into our privacy. The risk-reward issues will be heavily debated. While AI may have some potential negative effects, we cannot allow AI to suffer the same fate that Nuclear Power suffered many decades ago.

The leftists scared Americans into making the development of clean nuclear energy impossible. Using the same tactics that the anti-AI crowd is using today, the nuclear power industry was effectively shut down in America. Imagine if we had 40-50 percent of our power coming from clean nuclear power. We could have prevented our country from participating in a lot of major conflicts in the Middle East.

Artificial Intelligence will have a major impact on how we live our lives. The positive impacts of this technology will hopefully make our lives more enjoyable. The developers of this technology must use prudence in how they introduce AI into our society. A company that introduces faulty AI products without proper guardrails into our society will face economic destruction. That is the American way.
