California Ended Standardized Tests For College Entrance: OOPS

California Democrats allowed leftists to take control of the California university system.The desire of these leftists is to birth a socialist system in the United States where power is in the hands of the educated elites. 

In 2020, the California Democrats decided that the California University System would eliminate the requirement for standardized testing for university applicants. Standardized tests for college admissions have been required for decades because of the test’s ability to objectively measure the academic preparedness of prospective students. The standardized tests provide a common benchmark that is necessary because there are many school systems in our country that have very low academic standards. Many school systems do not challenge students and give them inflated grades. 

Of course, the Democrats claimed that standardized tests were racist and merely a method of illegal wealth and race discrimination. 

Even a cave man could have predicted the outcome of the elimination of standardized testing.  Just a few years after the policy was established, the University of California San Diego’s Senate Workgroup on Admissions published a report that detailed the immediate reduction in preparedness of students for university life.

According to the report, there was a thirty fold increase in freshmen who could not complete basic high school math. Twelve percent of the incoming students required remedial help because their level of math understanding was on a middle school level. Interestingly, many of these same students had near perfect high school transcripts. (Thank you Randi Weingarten)

Recently, 600 STEM professors in California universities sent a letter to the University of California Board of Regents asking to restore the standardized testing requirements for college applicants.

For decades, the California University System was known for its quality education for qualified applicants. The system provided a pathway for many economically disadvantaged students to reach economic freedom.

The leftists in California are attempting to ruin the education system by allowing anyone to enter the university system. The chaos caused by this insane policy is harmful to the unqualified students who gain entrance to the universities and then struggle and eventually fail while collecting huge debts that must be repaid. 

Qualified students are harmed by the degrading of the educational process that requires professors to slow down to help the unqualified students. The dumbing down of the educational process removes the rigorous  requirements that challenge the brightest minds.

Leftists attempt to improve education by lowering the standards. (Everybody gets an “A”) Conservatives improve education by raising the bar and encouraging everyone to meet the challenge.
