The Democrats continue to use the term “affordability” against President Trump as they claim his policies are making it hard for working class Americans to eke out a living. Ironically, the Democrat leader that the wealthy elites prefer to be their party nominee for President in 2028 is Gavin Newsom. Newsom has been the Governor of California for over 7 years and his state has earned the award as the least affordable state of the United States.
US News and World Report is a publication that annually ranks states on affordability. This past year, California ranked dead last in affordability. How is it that California, a leftist nirvana, is so cruel to working Americans?
Let’s discuss gasoline prices. California residents, according to National Review, are paying at least 88 cents a gallon more than New Yorkers are paying for gasoline. California’s gasoline tax is double the average gasoline tax in the United States. The regulatory burden for gasoline refineries in California is so onerous that it causes the cost of producing and distributing gasoline to be higher.
What about food prices? Food costs in California are the 3rd highest in the country despite the fact that so many agricultural products are grown in California. A researcher at California Polytechnic State University found that regulatory compliance for lettuce growers in California had a cost of $1,600 dollars per acre which is a 1,366 percent increase since 2006.
What about electricity costs? California’s electricity costs are the second most expensive in the whole country and it doubles the national average.
What about driving safety? Lending Tree ranks states by their driving safety. California ranked ninth-worst in the United States. California ranked third worst in road conditions with 26% of its roads ranked as “poor.” Another organization ranked California’s highway system 49th in overall cost-effectiveness and conditions.
The high affordability cost of living in California should come as no surprise to anyone who looks beyond Gavin Newsom’s brand of hair gel. California, like many Democrat run states, shows little inclination to operate on business principles. Democrats tend to focus on raising taxes and giving state tax dollars to their supporters.
Under the California system, the rich get richer on the backs of the workers. For those that really care about affordability, California is not the state to emulate and Gavin Newsom is not the answer for America.
