The State of Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did the world and the Middle East region a huge favor this week. The Israeli attack against Iranian nuclear weapon sites clears a pathway for the region to de-escalate tensions and negotiate peace treaties among enemies.

Iran has successfully destabilized the Middle East since they overthrew the Shah of Iran and gave the religious hardliners political and military control. The hardliners possess a hatred for Israel that mirrors the hatred that KKK members had towards blacks in America. The hardliners, though a minority in number, dominate the political arena and have imposed their rules on the Iranian population. They have fomented unrest in the region by supporting Hamas in Gaza, Assad in Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Iran has consistently given arms and financial support to these groups who would then foment attacks in the region that thwarted any attempts to find peace.

Israel and Netanyahu had warned for decades that Iran was developing nuclear weapons that would give Iran control of the region. Some Republicans and many Democrats bought the false notion that we could negotiate with the Iranian government and reach an agreement that would prevent Iran from producing nuclear weapons.

Netanyahu understood that Iran would continue to develop nuclear weapons in defiance of any agreements that might be in place. Democrats like John Kerry and Joe Biden decried Netanyahu’s realism and claimed that HE was the destabilizing force in the region.

Several months ago, Trump realized that Iran was nearing completion of a nuclear weapon. He gave the Iranians 60 days to negotiate a treaty. The Iranians miscalculated and ignored the deadline.

The Israelis were ready to act because they had been planning this mission since 2008. Last October, the Israelis destroyed most of Iran’s early-warning systems and made them defenseless to air attacks. The Israelis had crippled Hezbollah in Lebanon. They had eliminated Hamas as a fighting force. Syria had overthrown Assad. The result was that Iran stood alone and as a much weaker fighting force.

Israel informed the US authorities that they intended to strike the nuclear weapon development facilities in Iran. The US did not attempt to stop Israel as Biden had done before.

The Israelis attacked the Iranian facilities and eliminated their military leadership.

The Arab world is silently smiling because the militants in Iran are no longer able to disrupt the region at will. Arab nations will now be able to negotiate with Israel to bring stability to the region.

Can you imagine what would have happened if Kamala had been elected? She would have stood by while Iran obtained nuclear weapons.

Israel has done the world a favor by reducing the power of Iran. Now is the time for the US to support peace talks in the region. Hopefully, the people of Iran can replace their present leadership and become a stable force in the region.
