Sometimes in politics there is a no-brainer endorsement for a political office. The City of Bradenton gives us an example of a candidate that is so more qualified than his opponent that one would expect the mercy rule to be enacted. Gene Brown has served as Mayor of Bradenton for four years which followed the 7 years he served on the city council.

Unfortunately, Joe McClash, a former county commissioner and the owner of an online newspaper, has decided that he wants to be the puppeteer behind the scenes in the Bradenton and Manatee County so he is putting his political machine behind a man who many people consider to be dangerous for the City of Bradenton. The man that McClash is supporting is Bill Sanders, who is considered mentally unhinged by many people.

Bill Sanders served on the city council for four years  and was the equivalent of a dumpster fire in his behavior. In his first campaign for office he accused his opponent of cutting the brake linings on his vehicle. Sanders was accused of bullying city employees and creating a toxic work environment at city hall. Sander’s only hope is letting Joe McClash push him across the goal line. Unfortunately, if Sanders were to win, the taxpayers of Bradenton would be the losers as Sanders would bring negative publicity to our city.

Let’s take a closer look at Mayor Gene Brown. When Brown took over as Mayor four years ago, he began the healing process for  city workers who had suffered under the unhinged behavior of Bill Sanders. Mayor Brown took actions to make the workplace safer at city hall.

Mayor Brown, along with the city council members, began the process of fixing Bradenton’s infrastructure. The city is investing over $120 million to fix the stormwater, wastewater and drinking water systems. This needed investment will protect our environment and the health of our citizens for generations.

Mayor Brown has also worked on several projects to bring affordable workforce housing to the city of Bradenton. Nearly 700 new units with 5 different developers are coming to market. This is what has been needed in Bradenton to allow workers to provide affordable housing for their families.

Mayor Brown has also worked in conjunction with the other local governments to strategize ways to encourage our young people to stay and live in our area.

Mayor Brown is continuing to work with the Florida Department of Transportation to find ways to reduce the traffic congestion in Bradenton.

Mayor Gene Brown has been a breath of fresh air in the Mayor’s office. Mayor Brown’s whole life has been about serving his community. Gene has volunteered countless hours for community organizations since he was a teenager.

The taxpayers of Bradenton appreciate the dedicated public servant that is Gene Brown. The taxpayers should not allow a would-be puppeteer/slumlord to install a (in my opinion) dangerous person to lead our city.

We wholeheartedly endorse Gene Brown for Mayor of Bradenton. The taxpayers should be thankful for the civility and common sense he brings to our city.
