A 34-year-old Palmetto woman is finally facing an animal cruelty charge that dates back to August.

Police say Tina Gibson threw her dog over the railing of her third floor residence in the 700 block of Third Avenue East on Aug. 26.

Following a mental evaluation, Gibson wasn’t arrested until Nov. 2, according to the arrest warrant.

Police say the dog landed on top of a witness’s golf cart who asked Gibson what happened. According to the warrant, Gibson claimed the dog was dead, which it was not.

Following the completion of a mental health evaluation, police determined that Gibson, “intentionally threw her dog over the third story railing to inflict unnecessary pain or suffering,” to the animal.

The dog was taken care of by a third party until Animal Control was able to take custody.

Gibson was arrested Nov. 2, but was released the same day after posting a $1,500 bond.



50-year-old living with mom charged with battering her

Charles Obey, 50, was arrested on Oct. 28 at 4:42 p.m. after the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office learned he shoved his 67-year-old mother after she tried to come into his bedroom.

Deputies say Obey told the victim, “You can’t come in my room,” before pushing the woman.

Obey was booked into the Manatee County jail on Oct. 28 and released on Nov. 1 after posting a $1,000 bond.



Bradenton man chokes woman over phone messages

A 24-year-old Manatee County man faces a felony domestic battery by strangulation charge after choking a woman over phone messages that made him jealous, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say Isaiah Gutierrez punched and choked the victim, who was able to escape from her bathroom window to seek help.

According to the arrest report, Gutierrez ran after the victim and confronted her at a neighbor’s house, but fled when he learned law enforcement was contacted.

Gutierrez was located in Bradenton on Oct. 27 at around 3:30 a.m. and taken into custody. Gutierrez was booked into the Manatee County jail where he remains in custody on a $250,000 bond.



Another woman beater jailed

A 42-year-old Bradenton man was jailed after choking a former girlfriend because he was mad at his own family for trespassing him, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Barry Geibe was arrested on Oct. 29 at around 1:30 p.m. after assaulting the victim inside a vehicle in the 5900 block of 53rd Avenue East.

According to the arrest report, the victim was trying to help Geibe after a relative died even though she had already broken off what she called an abusive relationship.

The victim was paid for her kindness by Geibe attacking her, according to deputies.

Deputies noted that they observed “several bruises,” and redness around her neck.

Geibe was booked into the Manatee County jail and remains in custody after prior bonds were revoked.



Man attacks three women with a brick

A 20-year-old man faces multiple felonies after attacking two juvenile females and an adult female with a brick because he was asked not to smoke marijuana near their home, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say Salvador Bermudez was near the victims’ home in the 1100 block of 51st Avenue Drive West at about 1:20 a.m. on Oct. 30 when the attack began.

One of the juvenile females approached Bermuez and a small group of others smoking marijuana and asked them to stop, at which time Bermudez picked up a brick and struck the victim in the face, deputies say.

According to the arrest report, the second juvenile confronted Bermudez about the attack on the young girl, at which time Bermudez punched her in the face.

Deputies say Bermudez then hit the adult female over the head with a brick, knocking her to the ground and then punched her several times.

Bermudez was located a short time later and taken into custody. He was booked into the Manatee County jail and charged with on two counts of use of a deadly weapon and battery. He was released on Oct. 31 after posting bonds totaling $15,000.
