Manatee Herald staff report
A 42-year-old Bradenton woman is facing child abuse charges after witnesses told the child’s father that Lateshia Brinson had been beating the child for an hour.
According to the arrest report, the father called the Bradenton Police Department, which responded on Sept. 24 just after 2:30 p.m. Officers observed multiple fresh bruises on the child’s body.
Police say Brinson admitted to “disciplining” her child and when asked how many times the child was hit, Brinson told police, a “few” times.
Brinson was booked into the Manatee County jail and released the following day after posting an undisclosed bond amount.

A 49-year-old Bradenton man thought it necessary to attack Manatee County deputies in defense of his son who was being arrested for a hit-and-run crash.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the location of the son in the 400 block of 60th Avenue Terrace West on Sept. 23 just after 9 p.m.
Deputies say Julio Rivera-Zavala saw his son actively resisting arrest and attempted to get his dog to attack the deputies. A female deputy attempted to keep Rivera-Zavala from getting involved, at which time he tried, but failed to punch the deputy, according to the arrest report.
Deputies say Rivera-Zavala also resisted arrest, but both father and son were eventually taken into custody.
Rivera-Zavala was booked into the Manatee County jail and released the following day after posting an undisclosed bond amount.
