Mike Evans Reveals What He Knew About Tom Brady’s Injury

We knew Tom Brady played through injury en route to the Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. Until recently, we weren’t aware that he actually played through a torn MCL, which required surgery soon after the season.

At this point, it is hard to be surprised by Brady’s exploits. The MCL news, which just came out earlier this month, is one of those rare instances. The injury usually requires a pretty lengthy recovery, and Brady played through it and won a title.

The Buccaneers kept Brady’s status under wraps, something that has the franchise catching some serious heat. The NFL can punish teams for hiding a player’s injury status, including “a fine on the involved club, fines or suspensions of involved individuals, as well as the possible forfeiture of draft choices by the involved club,” per the league handbook.

Bucs star wide receiver Mike Evans was among those that didn’t know the full extent of the injury. “I knew he was hurt, hurt pretty bad,” he told JoeBucsFan.com. “But you know, he’s as tough as you’re going to get. He was battling.”

“I didn’t know it was torn. But it speaks to as tough as a player he really is.”

So far, Evans says he doesn’t notice a huge difference in Brady from last season, but says he “looks very springy and wiry right now.”

Tampa brings back virtually the entirety of last year’s Super Bowl roster, with a number of players working out new deals to give the front office room to get everyone under the salary cap. If Tom Brady could lead the team to a title last year, the team may have an even higher ceiling in 2021.
