Jake Reed claimed off waivers by Rays
Jake Reed’s tenure in the Dodgers organization lasted 51 days, ending on Sunday when he was claimed off waivers by the Rays. Tampa Bay optioned Reed to Triple-A Durham.
The 28-year-old sidearming right-hander was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make room on the 40-man room for outfielder Billy McKinney, who was acquired via trade from the Mets.
Reed opted out of his minor league contract with the Angels at the end of June, then signed with a minor league pact with the Dodgers on June 4. A month later Reed was with the Dodgers and made his major league debut on July 6.
July has been a busy month in the Dodgers bullpen, with the team using 17 pitchers in relief during the month. Reed was a busy man in his time with the Dodgers, pitching in six of the nine games for which he was active, allowing three runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings, with five strikeouts and two walks before getting optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Monday.
Reed’s wife Janie is an outfielder for Team USA softball in the Tokyo Olympics, with the U.S. set to face Japan in the gold medal game on Tuesday.
