The new movie Black Widow is now in theaters, and streaming on Disney+ Premier Access, and there’s an end credits scene that sets up the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Most of the Marvel movies in recent years have featured an additional scene in the credits and these scenes often tease what’s to come in future movies.
The post-credits scene for Black Widow sets up the action for the upcoming Hawkeye series, which will star Jeremy Renner and will stream on Disney+ later this year.
The Black Widow star who is featured in the scene has spoken out about filming it and you can check out the details here!

SPOILER ALERT – The scene features Yelena (Florence Pugh) visiting Natasha’s grave (“daughter, sister, Avenger”) where she’s joined by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), also known as Val, who first appeared in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. (She technically would have made her debut in this movie if the release schedule wasn’t altered amid the pandemic.)
There are still many questions left lingering, like whether Yelena was Snapped by Thanos and came back, or if she’s been working with Val for a while.
Val reveals she has a new target for Yelena, the person responsible for Natasha’s death: Hawkeye. “Kind of a cutie, don’t you think?” Val says as she shows Hawkeye’s photo, suggesting that Yelena will possibly be on the hunt for Hawkeye in the upcoming TV show.
Florence says that the post-credits scene was filmed during re-shoots for the movie, which took place in early 2020 before the pandemic started. The week before filming the scene at Natasha’s grave, she was filming an action scene with Scarlett Johansson.
“I was doing scenes again with Scarlett, and being strapped to her on various machines, and us giggling again,” she told Variety. “And then the following week, I was at her grave! It was quite shocking to fast-forward that quickly. But wonderful to have only seen Scarlett the week previous. I think it would have been sadder if it had been many, many months later.”
Florence was very happy to be featured in the scene because she says she “didn’t know that there was going to be one.”
So, what’s next for Yelena?
Florence said, “She’s going to continue what she’s good at, and despite her sister not being there, she’s back working. If you look at her costume, and you look at the way that she’s dressed herself, it shows someone that’s flourishing.” She added, “So to me, it was just really wonderful to kind of jump ahead and see she has been surviving. But, of course, it sets up a whole different challenge — which is Natasha’s fighting partner.”
Did you know another actress almost played Black Widow instead of Scarlett?
