A bipartisan group of 75 House lawmakers urged President Joe Biden on July 6 to reopen the U.S.-Canada border and lift other pandemic-related travel and entry restrictions. “Due to the progress our country has made to defeat COVID-19, we respectfully urge your administration to begin taking science-based, data-driven steps to safely reopen international travel to the United States,” stated a letter (pdf) to Biden signed by Republicans and Democrats. “By taking these steps, your administration can both protect public health and safety, and accelerate economic recovery and rehiring in the hard-hit travel industry.” The land ports of entry to Canada are currently closed to non-essential travel.
