Prince Harry Faces Down Fightening Scene On LAX Runway

Prince Harry flew to London on Thursday so that he could attend the unveiling of a statue of his mother, the late Princess Diana, at Kensington Palace next week. Just before Harry’s flight took off, however, disaster struck at Los Angeles International Airport when a driver crashed through a fence.

CBSLA reported that the driver, who has only been identified as a male, led police on a short chase at about 6 p.m. across two busy runways on the south side of LAX before he was arrested at a private terminal for charter jets. Police said that the car was a gray Mazda hatchback with the letters “SOS” written on the hood.

After crashing through the fence, the driver reportedly sped past a line of FedEx jumbo-jets parked on the tarmac and then proceeded to speed across runways 25 Left and 25 Right. After that, the driver did a u-turn and crossed them again.

Though nobody was injured in the chase, it briefly delayed flights on the two runways. It has not been revealed at this time what exactly led the man to crash through the fence.

Harry’s flight to the United Kingdom took off about 45 minutes after the chase ended. After landing there, Harry began his five-day quarantine before joining his brother Prince William at the event honoring their mother. Their father Prince Charles will be at his estate in Scotland during the event, and he reportedly has no plans to see Harry during his visit.

People Magazine reported that Harry’s wife Meghan Markle stayed behind in California with their two children, Archie and Lili. The statue is being unveiled in honor of Diana on what would have been her sixtieth birthday. The palace said in a statement last year that it was “commissioned to mark the twentieth anniversary of her death and recognize her positive impact in the UK and around the world.”

“The statue will be installed in the Sunken Garden of Kensington Palace on 1st July 2021, marking The Princess’s 60th birthday,” the statement added. “The Princes hope that the statue will help all those who visit Kensington Palace to reflect on their mother’s life and her legacy.”
