Biden Administration Extends Eviction Moratorium by ‘One Final Month’

WASHINGTON—The Biden Administration announced on June 24 the extension of the national moratorium on evictions by one more month to support renters and prevent foreclosures. The current moratorium, which was imposed by the CDC in response to hardships caused by the pandemic, was scheduled to expire on June 30. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended the eviction moratorium from June 30 until July 31, calling it “the final extension.” Following the CDC’s guidance, the White House announced several actions to help state and local governments prevent a “flood of evictions” when moratorium ends next month. According to the White House, there is more than $46 billion available for the Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) program that could be used to help vulnerable renters and landlords.
