A Florida man has been arrested after hopping into a random van and taking a snooze, but not before he rummaged through the glove box.
According to Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, a woman opened the rear door of her father’s van outside of his Englewood home and discovered a man asleep inside.
Deputies say the glove compartment rummaged through.
Investigators say the woman alerted her father, quickly ran back inside her home, locked the door, and called 911.
Deputies say the man woke up to the woman’s screams and exited the van. While walking away from the residence, the man was making eye contact with a person performing lawn maintenance at the home.
With no shoes or shirt on, the man walked down a dirt road and out of sight.
According to CCSO, deputies quickly located the man who told investigators that he worked for the lawn maintenance person and he sat in the van to get out of the rain.
The only problem was, it was a sunny day and the lawn maintenance man said that he didn’t work for him.
Deputies say the victim was brought to the location and positively identified Dustin Luther,30, as the man who was in the van. Luther changed his story and was placed under arrest for Burglary.
After being arrested and handcuffed, deputies say that Luther, “tensed his body and attempted to twist and turn away from the deputies, leading to an added charge of Resisting Arrest without Violence.”
Luther was out of the Florida Department of Corrections on probation and added the Violation of Probation charge.
He is being held in the Charlotte County Jail on no bond.
