Prime Minister Meloni of Italy Defends Western Civilization

Prime Minister Georgia Meloni of Italy addressed an audience in NYC and discussed the subject of Western Civilization and Nationalism. Today, our universities are overwhelmingly staffed with professors that believe that Western culture is a form of racism and bigotry and as such should be erased from our world history. 

Meloni referred to these people as  suffering from oikophobia, the Greek word which means fear of home. Many of today’s college professors hate their own culture and attempt to claim the moral high ground by accusing those with pride in Western culture as being modern Nazis. 

Prime Minister Meloni questioned what are the Western values we should reject. Feeling proud of one’s country and its history of accomplishments is a normal reaction. Meloni said: “When we see our flag, if we feel proud, it means that we feel pride to be part of a community, and that we are ready to do our part to make its fate better.”

Meloni said the “West” is more than a geographical location. “West” is “a civilization built over the centuries with the genius and sacrifice of many.” She went on to say that the “West is a system of values in which a person is central, men and women are equal and free, and therefore the systems are democratic, life is sacred, the state is secular, and based on the rule of law.”

Meloni asks, “are these the values which we should be ashamed of?” Today, our students are often taught that they should ignore Western civilization because of the mistakes that occurred during the making of this civilization. These leftist professors speak about the history of slavery and the lack of gender equality as reasons Western civilization should be ignored.

This is such a ludicrous argument. Do we denigrate Martin Luther King, Jr. because he was a minister and a womanizer? Do we denigrate Barak Obama because he opposed gay marriage when it was popular to oppose? Do we denigrate all that FDR accomplished just because he interned Japanese-Americans during WWII?

Prime Minister Meloni stated: “Defending our deep roots is the precondition for reaping ripe fruit. Learning from our past mistakes is the precondition for being better in the future.” As an example, we fight human traffickers today because our Western civilization fought slavery years ago. Meloni quoted an Italian philosopher who said: “He who knows how to conserve is not afraid of the future, because he has learned from the lessons of the past.”

Meloni’s defense of Western civilization is needed to contrast the hogwash of today’s professors who are so smart they cannot tell the difference between a man and a woman. We must teach our children to take pride in the accomplishments of what our civilization and country has brought to each of us  and also has been shared with the needy of the world.
