Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill did the American taxpayers a favor by phasing out taxpayer subsidies for wind and solar power. Of course, the Democrats, with their lack of business acumen, are protesting the end of the subsidies.
Too often, the bright ideas of Democrats (Defund the Police) have horrible unintended consequences. The solar and wind subsidies they championed are another example. Multiple times we have witnessed the federal government attempting to manipulate the marketplace with tax rulings. These manipulations always start with a good idea about helping the economy or the taxpayer. Too often, these manipulations end up hurting the working men and women of our great country while the wealthy make out like bandits.
Over the past decade, the federal government mandated that auto manufacturers begin the transition to electric vehicles. This has resulted in less production of gas powered vehicles. Less production of these traditional gas powered vehicles has resulted in their prices rising dramatically.
Who drives electric vehicles? For the most part it is people who are considered wealthy. These are the people that our government has given a tax break. Another example of Democrats helping the wealthy.
What cars do the working class drive? For the most part they drive gas powered vehicles. The cost that these working Americans are forced to pay for transportation has risen dramatically because auto makers are forced to build more electric vehicles.
During the Biden administration, the Democrats passed the Inflation Reduction Act which changed the tax rules to make it much more profitable to invest in solar and wind power projects. This tax break set the stage for investors to place their bets on wind and solar power. This year, 93% of the new electricity capacity will be in the wind, solar and battery arena.
Some may ask, is this not a good outcome? Not if you dislike electrical blackouts. Wind, solar and battery generated electricity is not as reliable as gas powered electricity. Wind, solar and battery power rely on gas powered electricity to back them up because they are not reliable. What does unreliable mean? It means that without backup, wind, solar and battery power will have a certain percentage of time they are down. For our Democrat readers, that means when the solar power goes down, you don’t have electricity in your business or home.
With so many tax breaks going to wind and solar power, investments in gas powered electricity plants have dried up. These plants are not as profitable when they are only used as back-up for wind and solar plants.
The end result of this lack of investment in gas powered electricity plants is that the Energy Department is estimating that by 2030, Americans will lose power an average of 817 hours annually or 34 days, assuming typical weather conditions. If heat waves or storms affect the grid, the loss of power could extend to 55 days.
This is occurring because a certain amount of gas powered energy plants are reaching their life expectancy and will be shut down. Because of the tax breaks for wind and solar, these gas powered plants have not been replaced by similar plants.
When the Democrats gave huge tax breaks to solar and wind energy projects, they lacked the foresight to realize the negative effects of pushing investors into solar and wind energy. The end effect will be a much larger negative impact on working class taxpayers. When the power grid shuts down, the wealthy will have little impact on their lives because many of them live in homes with generators that turn on when the power shuts off.
The working class Americans, who cannot afford backup generators will suffer through days with no electrical power in their homes. Just another example of Democrat policies hurting the working Americans.
Fortunately, because Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill passed and eliminates many of the wind and solar tax breaks, investment will hopefully begin flowing into gas powered energy projects.
