Why is the Socialist Democrat nominee for Mayor of New York City talking about his intent to open city operated grocery stores? New York City has been the “Mecca” of grocery stores and bodegas for over a hundred years. Produce has been shipped into New York’s Hunts Point Terminal from across our country and from around the world. This produce is then distributed to grocers throughout the five New York boroughs.

Why does New York City have large areas that are referred to as food “deserts” because of the lack of grocery stores? As usual, the mainstream media and Democrats refuse to address the reason behind these food deserts.
There is a simple explanation for the food deserts: crime. New York City experienced surges in crime in the 1970s and 1980s. Rudy Giuliani was elected as Mayor and he began empowering the police to crack down on and remove the bad actors from the streets. The NYPD instituted a “stop and frisk” policy that allowed the police to be proactive in addressing street crime.
Crime rates in New York City dropped and this continued into Michael Bloomberg’s tenure as Mayor. True to their instincts, the Democrats began to complain about the police tactics because they said it discriminated against minorities. Al Sharpton (Mr. MSNBC) led protest marches and the Democrats prevailed and the “stop and frisk” police policy was ended.
Bill de Blasio was elected Mayor and his background was Marxist/Socialist similar to the current Democrat Mayor nominee. De Blasio spoke about curtailing police activities and making the city more affordable. Sound familiar?

The NYPD began to realize that the mayor was not supporting them and they responded by taking a more “hands off” approach to crime. Police officers realized that any confrontation with a criminal suspect could lead to the officer being prosecuted.
Surprise, surprise, crime rates rose, including shoplifting. Grocery chains began to experience high losses due to shoplifting. The shoplifters realized that the downside to their crime was minimal so they continued to steal with impunity.
The Black Lives Matter geniuses began to harass police officers and the Democrats joined them and this led to criminal elements realizing they had the upper hand. Retail chains realized that the police, not the criminals, had been handcuffed. The retail store owners realized their only realistic option was to close operations in major parts of the city. This created the “food deserts” we hear being discussed.
Now we have a Socialist Democrat candidate for Mayor NYC who has endorsed defunding the police and now wants to open city operated grocery stores. This is similar to treating melanoma by using mascara to cover up the cancer. The city operated grocery stores will be full of shoplifters who know they will not be prosecuted and will have no bail if they are arrested. These stores will hemorrhage cash.
Americans have an inherent sensibility about what works and what does not work. Young college graduates who do their research on TikTok are vulnerable to “messiahs” who will fix their monetary woes by giving them cheap housing and free groceries.
Self discipline to these young workers is going to the office 2 days a week. They have chosen a lifestyle of minimal work and much play. This lifestyle has resulted in an economic situation that is unsustainable for them. They see no way out of their mess and thus when a socialist candidate tells them their low work-high play lifestyle can be mandated by the government, they are quick to jump on his bandwagon.
Brace yourself America.
