The tragedy of the deadly floods in Texas revealed the usual vitriolic comments from Democrats who claimed Trump was at fault for the deaths because he had cut the National Weather Service budget. As if that ludicrous statement was not enough, Democrats showed their lack of compassion by saying that the grieving parents deserved this tragedy because they had voted for Trump and therefore the Democrats assumed the parents of the dead girls did not believe in global warming.

This disgusting trend of gloating at tragedy that befalls one’s political opponents became a trend when Hurricane Katrina tore through New Orleans in 2005. The City of New Orleans was run, at that time, by Mayor Ray Nagin who was later convicted of bribery and money laundering.
The government of New Orleans was an incompetent mess and most of its citizens did little to prepare for the approaching hurricane. When the hurricane flooded the city and brought terrible destruction, the Democrats saw an opportunity to damage President George W Bush.
The Democrats and the mainstream media claimed that the federal response to the hurricane was inadequate and the blame lay at the feet of President Bush. Most Americans did not agree with the assessment but the charges did land political blows to the President.
Similarly today, the Democrats are exploiting the horrible tragedy in Texas in order to damage President Trump and the Republicans. The problem for the Democrats is they have used this strategy so many times that it is not effective. Most Americans understand that natural disasters occur without any regard to which political party holds power.
If there is an event that occurs on a regular basis such as hurricanes and wildfires, Americans expect their leaders to be prepared to deal with the event or if possible to take real action that could prevent the disaster.
100 year floods are not disasters that anyone can be completely prepared to deal with. Planes being flown into office buildings was not something that officials were deemed to be prepared to deal with.
As one person said, “Sometimes bad things happen to good people.” When such an event occurs, most Americans have empathy for the victims and many Americans give of their time or money to help those who have been injured.
Fortunately, the hideous statements by Democrats do more damage to them than to the targets of the Democrats. To be fair, we have all said things that we wish we could take back.
Hopefully, we as a country can mourn those we have lost and adopt policies that lower the risk of this happening again.
