The Houthis in Yemen are turning out to be more like the Blowfish (full of hot air but easy to defeat) since “Marshall Trump” said enough is enough. The Houthis are a Shia Islamic military group in Yemen that have been fighting a civil war for decades.
The Houthis are directly supported by Iran as they battle Sunni Arabs in their region. It is interesting to watch Muslims kill each other over different interpretations of the Koran. Fortunately, the Episcopalians and the Catholics just argue over whether wine or cocktails should be served at the parish dinners.
The Biden administration stopped Saudi Arabia from fighting the Houthis and took the Houthis off the terrorist list. This all appeared to be part of a plan to curry the favor of Iran.
Yemen sits at a chokepoint for international shipping at the entrance of the Red Sea from the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis have chosen to attack ships passing through this chokepoint as a show of support for Hamas. Interestingly, the Houthis have refused to attack the Chinese or Russian ships.
In the past few years, Houthi rebels have attacked US warships 174 times and they have attacked commercial vessels 195 times. Their attacks have caused the US military to fire billions of dollars worth of missiles to defeat the Houthi attacks.
The Biden administration was tepid in their response to the Houthi attacks on world shipping and US military ships. The Biden response to these attacks was to fire missiles at the location from which the Houthi missile was fired. The Houthis were unimpressed with the Biden response.
Trump told the Houthis weeks ago; “Your time is up and your attacks must stop starting today. If you don’t, hell will rain down upon you like nothing you have ever seen before.” Trump followed this up with a major attack on the Houthis and their missile infrastructure. The leadership of the Houthis started moving their families out of the country.
Trump does not favor prolonged wars. He does understand that terrorists respect power and ignore weakness. The Houthis have watched Iran back away after Israel and Trump made it clear they would attack Iran and hold them responsible for any Houthi attacks. I think the Houthis will back off their attacks on the US military and international shipping and return to battling Sunni Muslims over their religious differences.
WHEN MARSHALL TRUMP SPEAKS, TERRORISTS LISTEN.
