Californians are attempting to turn away from Gavin Newsom’s woke policies that have been a disaster for public safety. Several years ago, California enacted a law that made stealing less than $950 in goods a misdemeanor. At the same time, several high profile Democrat prosecutors refused to prosecute any misdemeanor thefts.
It did not take a Stanford Phd. to predict what happened. Thieves realized that if they did not steal more than $950 worth of merchandise, they would not be prosecuted. Thieves began to brazenly walk into stores and steal shopping carts of merchandise and they walked out the front door. Governor Gavin Newsom accepted this as normal and refused to admit that the new law was a mistake.
According to the Wall Street Journal, between 2019 and 2023, retail theft occurrences increased by nearly 70% in Sacramento and by 40% in Los Angeles. Remember these numbers reflect what was reported. Many store owners did not bother to report the theft because they knew the perpetrators would not be prosecuted.
The rest of America watched in confusion as stores across California were forced to shut down because of the relentless thieves. Many Californians began to move out of the state to escape the lunacy of the Democrats.
It turns out that some Californians were fed up with the lawlessness. Last November, 68% of Californians voted for Proposition 36 which allowed prosecutors to charge thieves with a felony for a third offense even if the stolen amount was less than $950. The law also allows for a felony prosecution for those who steal with 2 or more accomplices.
Gavin Newsom continues to showcase his low IQ by claiming that the new law that actually allows the prosecution of thieves would “take us back to the 1980s.” Newsom is such a leftist pussy that he actually believes that being soft on crime is a positive for his campaign to eventually be elected President.
A recent video from a police cruiser showed two females who had been arrested under the new law. They were shocked to find out that they could now be prosecuted for their crimes.
The truth is that while Newsom and Democrats are soft on crime, most Americans are tired of crime running rampant in working class neighborhoods while wealthy Democrats like Newsom live in gated communities with plenty of security.
