Washington, DC — Thirteen major metro stations located around the National Mall and the U.S. Capitol Building will be closed ahead of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

“We are working closely with our regional and federal partners to keep the public safe during this National Special Security Event and to discourage travel within the secure zone,” explained Metro General Manager Paul Wiedefeld in a statement.
“While we are supporting law enforcement plans to enhance security, we are also keeping essential services in place for our residents who need to get to work, to medical appointments, and to grocery stores,” Wiedefeld added.
In addition to closing several major stations, the WMATA will be rerouting more than a dozen buses that usually pass through the Washington D.C. area.
This announcement comes following an announcement from Airbnb that they would be canceling any reservation that was made during the time period around the inauguration in the surrounding metro areas, in addition to blocking any future reservations from being made during this time period.
Airbnb also announced that guests would be receiving full refunds for canceled reservations.
