Quick Bit: What to know about Oklahoma vs. No. 13 Florida State, including time and broadcast information.
The stakes are real for Brent Venables heading into the 2022 Cheez-It Bowl. He is looking to prevent Oklahoma’s first losing season since 1998, the final year of John Blake’s tenure before Bob Stoops and Lincoln Riley restored the Sooners program to college football prominence.
The Sooners have dropped three of their last four games in Venables’ inaugural year as head coach. While not all of that can be blamed on him — he inherited a team whose top quarterbacks scattered to the winds in the offseason — the reality among power schools is that expectations won’t always align with reality.
Oklahoma has its work cut out for it as it takes on No. 13 Florida State, a team that is hoping it is coming out of a twilight era caused by the abrupt departure of Jimbo Fisher. Mike Norvell has the Seminoles at 9-3 on the year; it’s the program’s best record since 2013.
Florida State has one of the most explosive offenses in the country, and it will be going up against an Oklahoma squad that is 99th in the FBS in scoring defense. The real question is whether the Sooners can keep up.
