10-year NBA veteran and “Dancing With the Stars” winner Iman Shumpert was reportedly arrested on Saturday, July 30 at the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport on marijuana possession charges.

According to TMZ, Shumpert was in possession of 6.12 ounces of a “green leafy substance” which tested positive for marijuana using a mobile test.

Shumpert, 32, was then cuffed and transported to the airport jail.

Here is the latest on Shumpert’s arrest.

TMZ reported that police responded to a potential drug violation call after TSA screeners found a plastic bag filled with a “green leafy substance.” Shumpert admitted the substance in his possession was marijuana, according to reports.

In addition to 6.12 ounces of marijuana, Shumpert is said to have had a Glock magazine and 14 9mm rounds in his possession but was not in possession of a firearm.

Shumpert is reportedly being charged with a “State Jail Felony,” which could result in up to two years of jail time and a $10,000 fine.

Shumpert was transported to the airport jail without incident.

According to reports, Shumpert told police that he was traveling to Los Angeles to pick up his daughter and, during the process, asked officers “if there was any way he could make his flight.”

There has been no further reporting on whether or not Shumpert was represented by an attorney or whether or not he was released on bond, though he has been active on Twitter as recently as Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Shumpert, the No. 17 overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, has appeared in 461 career games over 10 NBA seasons, playing a crucial role in Cleveland’s historic NBA title in 2016. He last appeared in an NBA game in February of 2021 while on a 10-day contract with the Nets.

Shumpert has not officially retired from the game but has ventured into different areas outside of basketball, winning the 30th season of “Dancing with the Stars” in 2021, releasing multiple studio albums and acting in Showtime’s “The Chi.”
