Quick Bit: Two European giants with Champions League aspirations meet at a sold-out Rose Bowl for a preseason friendly as Real Madrid face off against Juventus this weekend.
Two European giants with Champions League aspirations meet at the Rose Bowl for a preseason friendly as Real Madrid face off against Juventus this weekend.
Both sides are coming off 2-2 draws in midweek friendlies, with Real Madrid held by Club America and Juventus finishing level with Barcelona.
Karim Benzema found the back of the net in his preseason debut on Tuesday, hitting Real Madrid’s first goal against Club America. The strike was assisted by Marco Asensio, who is making a case this preseason for a starting role, holding off young hopeful Rodrygo on Los Blancos’ right wing.
Juventus talisman Dusan Vlahovic, however, has yet to appear in preseason, recovering from a knock. In his place, Moise Kean was the star with a brace to hold Barcelona. Vlahovic will want to get on the field soon, so he can establish the partnership with Angel Di Maria he has talked up this preseason.

Real Madrid vs Juventus lineups
The Real Madrid lineup for the 2-2 draw with Club America was likely how the club will progress through the Juventus match and into the season, as many supposed starters saw first-half minutes. The only one who started that match but could see the bench moving forward is center-back Nacho Fernandez who will likely be replaced into the regular season by either David Alaba or Eder Militao.
Karim Benzema started against Club America midweek and found the back of the net, playing the entirety of the first half with Vinicius Jr. and Marco Asensio in support. Rodrygo and Eden Hazard saw time up front in the second half, with the latter bagging a penalty.
The Real Madrid midfield also ramped up against Club America, with incumbent starters Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modric all starting and playing the first half. Eduardo Camavinga came on in the second half and played spectacularly, while new arrival Aurelien Tchouameni also saw time.
Real Madrid previous starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Lunin (GK) — Vazquez, Nacho, Rudiger, Mendy — Modric, Casemiro, Kroos — Asensio, Benzema, Vinicius Jr.
For the second straight friendly, Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri held both Dusan Vlahovic and Weston McKennie off the field against Barcelona, as the two are dealing with slight knocks and were not risked. Still, it will be important for the two to get minutes, especially McKennie who could be a key contributor during Paul Pogba’s injury absence.
In Vlahovic’s place up front stood Moise Kean who bagged a brace midweek and put himself in good standing as the next man up. Former Bundesliga player Denis Zakaria played the full 90 minutes in midfield, and therefore could be rested some against Real Madrid, while Angel Di Maria similarly played 77 minutes and his action may be scaled back over the weekend.
Look for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to play the full 90 minutes against Real Madrid after a first-half appearance on Tuesday.
Juventus previous starting lineup (4-3-3, right to left): Szczesny (GK) — Danilo, Bonucci, Bremer, Sandro — Zakaria, Ravella, Locatelli — Di Maria, Kean, Cuadrado.

Real Madrid are understandable favorites, coming off a Champions League title and taking on a Juventus side that is recovering from a down season.
Still, Los Blancos have slight plus odds against the Italian side, which was not the case with Barcelona on Tuesday and they could only manage a draw.
The two sides are both expected to find the back of the net, with both teams to score listed as an overwhelming favorite. Juventus have scored two goals in both friendlies thus far, but Real Madrid were held goalless against Barcelona before the 2-2 draw with Club America.
