Quick Bit: Ireland head into the Autumn International series as the newly crowned World No.1 international side after a historic summer in New Zealand.

Full Story:

Just as England were rescuing their summer series in Australia, Ireland were making history in Oceania with two famous wins in New Zealand.

Andy Farrell’s side came up short in March, with a narrow loss in Paris proving to be the key difference, as France clinched their first Six Nations title since 2010.

However, Ireland showed their steel in New Zealand despite the weight of never winning against the All Blacks on home soil prior to this summer.

Defeat in the first test was shrugged off in style with a historic victory in Dunedin before an incredible night in Wellington sealed a first ever series win over their hosts.

What happened to Ireland in the 2022 Six Nations?

With Wales and England not presenting a major challenge, the 2022 Six Nations essentially became a two-horse race between Farrell’s Ireland and Fabien Galthie’s France.

Defeat in Paris in Gameweek 2 put Ireland on the back foot, and despite keeping the pressure on France with wins over Italy, England and Scotland, Les Bleus held firm with a 100 percent record to take the Grand Slam.

What happened when Ireland toured New Zealand?

Ireland’s long winless record in New Zealand was the main focus as Farrell’s squad touched down in Auckland with the All Blacks quick to remind their visitors of their historic dominance.

Defeat in the first test in Hamilton made it look likely Farrell’s charges would fall to another Kiwi mauling in the Southern Hemisphere.

However, the Irish completely flipped the script in spectacular fashion in the final two games, a 23-12 win in Dunedin ending their 66-year wait to beat the All Blacks on New Zealand soil.

Farrell issued a rallying call to go one step further in the final Test, and a Tadhg Beirne-inspired Ireland roared over the line with a 32-22 win in Wellington to seal an incredible series victory.
