Quick Bit: Avoid exercising at all costs.

A subtle reminder that things can change at the snap of an exercise band.

Baseball has always played host to weird, freak injuries: Sammy Sosa famously threw out his back while sneezing, Blake Snell broke a toe while moving a granite fixture in his bathroom, and Trevor Bauer lost a fight with a drone.

On Monday, Cubs infielder Jonathan Villar entered the pantheon of weird baseball injuries: Villar landed on the 10-day injured list after an exercise band broke and snapped into his mouth.

Villar is expected to undergo “significant dental work” to repair the damage caused by the band, the team said.

Amidst other roster moves, the Cubs called up prospect Nelson Vel?zquez to fill in for Villar.

It’s unfortunate timing for Villar, who has hit .200 in May for the middling Cubs. He signed a one-year, $6 million pact with the Cubs this past offseason.

The Cubs are 19-27 and sit in fourth in the NL Central.

As if you needed another reason to put down the exercise bands and pick up another hot dog.
