Marianne Barnebey first served the citizens of Bradenton as Ward Two Councilwoman in January 1998. She was elected to the seat for four terms before she resigned to run for another office in 2012. When the Ward Two seat was vacated in June 2020, she jumped at the chance to come back and was appointed on June 24.

During her time away from the Council, Mrs. Barnebey found other ways to serve the community. She served as a Board Member and Chair of ArtCenter Manatee and was on the selection committee for architectural and construction services there. She also was a Board Member of the Service Club of Manatee County and as the grants Co-Chair and Chair, oversaw the distribution of more than $235,000 to selected charities that served children in Manatee County.

The City of Bradenton publishes a regular newsletter that includes a section where one of the members on the City of Bradenton Council shares some information.  Below is a copy of Vice Mayor Marianne Barnebey’s “Council Corner”.

Please know that construction of the Riverview Blvd. Water Main Replacement Project is set to commence on December 6th. This $717,000 project will replace old cast iron water mains on Riverview Blvd. from 34th St. W. to 28th St. Ct. W., as well as on 34th St. W. and 32nd St. W. from Riverview Blvd to 1st Ave. W.

There are also some associated stormwater pipe improvements on 34th and 32nd St. The project is set to be completed by May 5, 2022. Once the water main work is complete, Riverview will be milled and resurfaced from 34th to 26th St. W.

Also, design work is underway for the Riverview Blvd. Storm Drainage Project. This project will replace all the existing storm sewer outlet pipes from Riverview Blvd. to the Manatee River along the stretch from 26th St. W. to the dead end east of 20th St. W. Each new pipe will be equipped with a tide check valve to minimize the backflow of river water into the street during high tides. Construction of this project will occur in early spring 2022.

All of us in Bradenton have so much to be thankful for! Here’s wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours!
