Bokhari: Billionaire Space Travel – the Final Frontier of Climate Hypocrisy

The billionaire space race is accelerating, with Bezos’ trip to space coming in the same month as Virgin Galactic founder Richard Branson’s. Both Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are competing with SpaceX — another rocket company run by another billionaire, Elon Musk.

Billionaires staying in space might do the world a favor, especially when they own fake news rags like the Washington Post, but getting there doesn’t — at least if you take carbon emissions as seriously as the billionaires say they do.

Amazon takes climate change particularly seriously, or at least it says so. As Breitbart News reported in 2019, Bezos has pledged Amazon will reach zero emissions by 2030.

While Blue Origin reportedly used relatively clean fuel, the wider billionaire space race is likely to accelerate carbon emissions. The Guardian quotes Elois Marais, a University College London professor who notes that sending a rocket to space generally emits vastly more carbon emissions than a plane.

Via The Guardian:

“For one long-haul plane flight it’s one to three tons of carbon dioxide [per passenger],” says Marais. For one rocket launch it’s 200-300 tonnes of carbon dioxide carrying 4 or so passengers – close on two orders of magnitude more, according to Marais. “So it doesn’t need to grow that much more to compete with other sources.”

Right now, the number of rocket flights is very small: in the whole of 2020, for instance, there were 114 attempted orbital launches in the world, according to Nasa. That compares with the airline industry’s more than 100,000 flights each day on average.

But emissions from rockets are emitted right into the upper atmosphere, which means they stay there for a long time: two to three years. Even water injected into the upper atmosphere – where it can form clouds – can have warming impacts, says Marais. “Even something as seemingly innocuous as water can have an impact.”

So, having laughed in the face of the public by taking private jets to deliver lectures on climate change, the global elites can now flex their carbon privilege with 300-ton CO2 space rockets as well. Welcome to the final frontier of climate hypocrisy.

First female position coach in Division I football to assist Buccaneers during training camp

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – She is a football player, a college football coach, and, soon, Heather Marini will be a part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers coaching staff.

Marini is joining the team for training camp as a part of the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship and will be assisting the Buccaneers coaching staff for three weeks starting on Sunday.

“The Buccaneers are an incredible program, obviously, coming off of a Super Bowl win,” said Marini, “but I do not think we have seen the best of them yet, incredible players and incredible coaches.”

Marini is currently the quarterbacks coach at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. When she accepted the position in 2020, she became the first female position coach in Division I football.

She also plays football competitively for the Boston Renegades and says she is the backup quarterback behind the “Tom Brady of the league.”

“I coached football for a really long time before I ever got the opportunity to put on pads and a helmet,” she said, “so I felt like I had more left in me and I thought it would be fun to go down there.”

She will be with her team when they compete for their third consecutive national championship in Canton, Ohio on Saturday and, then, she will be flying to Tampa to start her fellowship on Sunday.

Marini told me she is excited about the opportunity and is anxious to learn as much as possible.

“You don’t know what you don’t know,” she said, “and, sometimes, you have to be open to everything. I really hope that, if I can bring one thing back to the quarterbacks room here at Brown, it will be a great success for me in the time that I am there.”

Marini participated in a scouting program with the New York Jets before she arrived at Brown University in 2019 where Buccaneers defensive coordinator Todd Bowles was the head coach of the Jets at that time. She commented on her relationship with him.

Although she has not been told if she will be sharing the sidelines with Coach Bowles during training camp, I do not doubt that Bowles will recognize Marini and her passion for the sport instantly.

“I want to be able to get in there and contribute and help and anything I can do to make the coaches’ jobs easier during what is a stressful time with training camp and to learn as much as I can,” she added. “Sometimes it is the little things you pick up that make all of the difference.”

‘Manifest’ Might Be Saved After All – New Details Revealed!

It was previously announced that Manifest was canceled by NBC after three seasons and while there were rumors that Netflix was interested in saving the show, those talks seemed to go away.

Now, it appears that Manifest might actually get saved and both NBC and Netflix are part of the talks.

Click inside for more details…

There have been some big changes at NBC, which could allow the network the opportunity to bring Manifest back for season four.

The network just scrapped plans for the upcoming spinoff series Law & Order: For the Defense and the planned fifth season of Good Girls fell apart due to issues with cast deals.

Not only is NBC interested in giving the show a renewal, Netflix is also back in talks with Warner Bros. TV to save the show. Deadline reports, “Netflix also has resumed talks with Warner Bros. TV about a fourth season on the streamer and they have been picking up momentum.”

Manifest continues to remain in the Top 10 on Netflix after more than a month. It will definitely be interesting to find out where the show ends up if a fourth season is ordered!

The show’s creator recently revealed a plan B for the show to hopefully give fans closure.

Military Institutions Dodge Questions on Critical Race Theory

U.S. military institutions dodged questions about the role of Critical Race Theory (CRT), a topic that recently triggered heated exchanges between conservative legislators and defense leaders.

The Epoch Times reached out to military bases regarding CRT cases reported via a whistleblower program launched at the end of May by Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) and Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.). Academies were also contacted for more curriculum details to support defense leaders’ argument that teaching CRT fosters an open-minded military. In response, the U.S. Naval Academy commented without addressing the CRT question, and West Point confirmed receiving and working on the request but didn’t comment.

In addition, the Office of the Secretary of Defense press operations and local military base deferred to each other in response to a CRT case inquiry.

The question was whether the whistleblower’s report of soldiers requiring to “experience and share a significant emotional event” occurred at inclusion training at the Patrick Space Force Base.

According to Crenshaw, to pass the training class, students have to share with the whole class that they have experienced a “significant emotional event” in which they “essentially admit privilege and repent racism.” Crenshaw added, “This was explicitly targeted towards white students and particularly white males. There was an assumption in the class that white people were racist, and white males were racist and sexist.”

The Epoch Times contacted the Patrick Space Force Base, where the “significant emotional event” reportedly occurred. The base’s public affairs office deferred the inquiry to the OSD press operations and Defense Spokesperson Maj. César Santiago wrote back in an email, “I refer you to the local military installation P.A. office for information regarding your request.”

Another case reported through the whistleblower program is “privilege walk.” The Moody Air Force Base trainees in Georgia have to take a step forward if they are white and take another step forward if they are male, and so on. This case is also included in Cotton’s June 10 memo (pdf) to the Senate Armed Services Committee: “The purpose of this trendy exercise is to physically separate participants based on the amount of ‘privilege’ they have. This message is damaging to the military organization, rank structure, and morale.”

The Moody Air Force Base public affairs office acknowledged receiving and working on The Epoch Times’ inquiry but hasn’t provided any comments.

Conservatives have expressed increasing concerns that the U.S. military is becoming “woke” as it incorporates the Critical Race Theory (CRT) in its training and education. They say that promoting CRT weakens the armed forces’ ability to support and defend the U.S. Constitution.

CRT is a practice that denounces U.S. and Western culture as a systematic form of oppression. Critics of the ideology—which is sometimes referred to as being “woke”—have said its proponents apply the Marxist tactic of “class struggle” to divide people along the lines of race, gender, and ethnicity to label them “oppressors” and “oppressed.”

Top defense leaders argued that teaching CRT is for keeping the military well-read. “On the issue of Critical Race Theory… I do think it is important, actually, for those of us in uniform to be open-minded and to be widely read.  And, the United States military academy is a university and it is important that we train and we understand, and I want to understand white rage—and I’m white,” said Gen. Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman, at a House budget hearing on June 23.

The key to knowing whether the U.S. military is promoting CRT or providing CRT as exposure is to see how the training relates to America’s objectives, “If it (CRT) is a kind of new movement now, what would it lead to? What is the aim of the State in making the Armed Forces read CRT?” Dr. Amrita Jash, a People’s Liberation Army (PLA) expert with India’s Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), told The Epoch Times.

She added that the PLA promotes a single school of thought and emphasizes loyalty to the CCP and its general secretary Xi Jinping. Democratic countries should be different, and the military is supposed to be apolitical, she said.

Race is the fault line in the American society that communism exploits, said former Virginia state Senator Dick Black, a Vietnam War veteran, and Purple Heart Medal recipient. “During the days of the Soviet Union, they always recognized that race was a dividing point,” Black told The Epoch Times.

At the center of the debate is one course on the Politics of Race, Gender, and Sexuality (SS392) at West Point, the U.S. Military Academy (USMA). The course outline on the USMA official website includes critical legal studies, equality, and social classes in the United States.

The Epoch Times reached out to Professor Rachel Yon, instructor of SS392, for more details about how the course serves as a mind opener instead of promoting CRT. She forwarded the request to the USMA public affairs, who acknowledged receiving and working on the inquiry but didn’t provide a comment.

Another course, social inequality (NL450) at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), is named as a CRT class by CriticalRace.org. This website documents Critical Race Training in over 300 colleges and universities in the United States. The Epoch Times raised the question to USNA whether NL450 was CRT and whether USNA teaches systematic inequality in U.S. social structures along with two other courses, Gender and Leadership (NL485) and Gender Matters (NL486B).

The USNA responded in an email without addressing the CRT question: “The Naval Academy focuses on developing well-rounded future leaders in the Navy and Marine Corps. The courses you are asking about are elective courses; each semester, interested midshipmen voluntarily choose from a field of electives to learn about different subjects based on the course descriptions provided. Typically, a vast array of intellectual ideas, approaches, and theories are addressed during classroom discussions. Of note, Gender Matters is the only elective of the three mentioned taught in the past five years.”

Conservatives Urge Americans to Fight Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

A letter signed by over 100 pro-life leaders at the Conservative Action Project site reads:

For nearly fifty years, the Hyde amendment has received bipartisan support as a national policy to ensure that U.S. taxpayers did not pay for abortions. Hyde-related policies have been consistently applied in other federal programs to protect the vulnerable at home, abroad, in research, and to protect the conscience rights of medical providers who object to abortions.

In June, House Democrats blocked a piece of legislation that would have codified the Hyde Amendment permanently into U.S. law:

Pro-life leaders view the Biden-Harris administration as the most pro-abortion in history. Under the guise of “equity,” and declaring abortion is the equivalent of “women’s health care,” Biden and his supporters have vowed to eliminate the Hyde Amendment and, consequently, force Americans to fund abortion, even those for whom such an action would violate their faith beliefs and moral standards.

At the end of May, Biden, a self-described Catholic, released his Fiscal Year 2022 budget, one that would eradicate the Hyde Amendment, which he once wholeheartedly supported.

In April 1994, then-Sen. Biden wrote to a constituent, “Those of us who are opposed to abortion should not be compelled to pay for them.”

According to data compiled by Family Research Council (FRC), during the 25 years between 1994-2019, “Planned Parenthood has reported performing 7,059,206 abortions and receiving $9.7 billion in total taxpayer funding.”

The FRC report continued:

Over the same period, while total abortions in the U.S. have decreased, Planned Parenthood’s share of total abortions reported to the Center for Disease Control have increased from a mere 10.5 percent in 1994 to 55.8 percent in 2018, the last year for which numbers are available. At the same time, annual taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood has nearly quadrupled, from $163.1 million in 1994 to $618.1 million in 2019.

FRC noted the House is weighing a spending bill that repeals the Hyde Amendment and includes $400 million for Title X (federal family planning grant program), the second largest source of federal funding for Planned Parenthood, and an amount that represents a 28 percent increase in family planning grants to advance Planned Parenthood’s abortion business.

FRC President Tony Perkins, one of the cosigners of the national letter, said Planned Parenthood “has become America’s abortion giant, and it has been taxpayer dollars that have bankrolled the baby-killing industry.”

Perkins explained further:

Planned Parenthood now performs more abortions annually than every other abortion supplier in America. Far from escaping its racist, eugenicist roots, it increasingly targets minority babies by locating the vast majority of its abortion facilities near black or Hispanic neighborhoods. Planned Parenthood does not deserve billions in government funding. Even pro-choice Americans have long agreed that taxpayers should not be forced to fund abortions. The time has come to put an end to the forced partnership between taxpayers and Planned Parenthood.

The national leaders also wrote concerning the lives that have been saved through Americans’ protection via the Hyde Amendment:

The Hyde amendment and its related policies are estimated to have saved the lives of 2.4 million babies since its inception. Revoking the Hyde amendment, and upending the bipartisan consensus that has supported its application, is a drastic step that shreds any vestige or pretense that Democrats are anything but radically pro-abortion.

“We urge all conservatives, and anyone who values the sanctity and dignity of human life from conception until natural death, to oppose spending legislation which does not contain the Hyde amendment and key related pro-life policies,” the leaders said.

A list of all the letter’s signatories can be found here.

Current COVID surge in Florida not due to ‘seasonal pattern’ of virus

Doctors say a more contagious variant and waning vaccination rates coupled with lax mitigation measures are driving case increases.

With COVID-19 cases in Florida doubling in the past week and hospitals across the state seeing a steady rise in admissions, Gov. Ron DeSantis has suggested the virus is simply following a seasonal pattern.

“Obviously in July, which I told people months ago, we would see higher prevalence because this is a seasonal virus and this is the seasonal pattern that it follows,” DeSantis said on Monday when asked about the rising case count.

“These things have a pattern; we saw the pattern last summer it’s similar.”

Last summer, just like now, new COVID cases shot up following the Memorial Day and Fourth of July holidays.

THE QUESTION

Are COVID cases surging in Florida because this is the ‘seasonal pattern’ the virus follows?

THE SOURCES

Dr. Michael Teng, virologist at the University of South FloridaDr. Jay Wolfson, with USF HealthFL Department of Health COVID data

THE ANSWER

No, it’s not because of a ‘seasonal pattern’ that COVID-19 cases are surging again in Florida.

WHAT WE FOUND

There is seasonality of viruses, said Dr. Michael Teng, where they typically spike during the winter months when the weather is colder, and our immunity is lowered.

“We see seasonality with influenza viruses, the coronavirus, the rhinoviruses that also cause the common cold,” he said. “We don’t have seasonality of coronaviruses in the summertime in Florida or anywhere.”

“What we’re seeing now,” he said, “with SARS-CoV-2 is not seasonality.”

“It may eventually become a seasonal virus like the rest of the coronavirus,” Teng said. “But we’re not at that point until we develop some sort of immunity as a population.”

So then what is driving the current uptick in cases?

Dr. Jay Wolfson says it’s a combination of factors that weren’t even in play last summer, starting with the fact that most aren’t masking up or staying home anymore. That coupled with the fast-spreading delta variant and waning vaccination rates is what’s really driving new cases, he said.

“We’re dealing with a strain of the virus which is dozens of times more virulent and more contagious than the last two or three we’ve experienced,” he said. “Combine that with the reservoir of unvaccinated people and it makes it a lot easier for more people to get sick—it’s all behavior-related.”

Florida has become the epicenter of the recent spike. About one in five new cases nationwide are coming from the state.

Netflix to Add Video Games to the Streaming Service!

Netflix has something exciting in the works for gaming lovers!

The streaming service is in the “early stages” of expanding into the gaming world and the company plans on adding games as a “free add-on” to all member subscriptions.

The upcoming gaming platform will focus on games for mobile devices.

Click inside to read a statement from the company…

In a letter to shareholders (via THR), the company said, “We view gaming as another new content category for us, similar to our expansion into original films, animation and unscripted TV. We’re excited as ever about our movies and TV series offering and we expect a long runway of increasing investment and growth across all of our existing content categories, but since we are nearly a decade into our push into original programming, we think the time is right to learn more about how our members value games.”

Back in January 2019, Netflix remarked at how more people were leaving Netflix to go play Fortnite than they were to watch HBO.

“We compete with (and lose to) Fortnite more than HBO,” the company said at the time. “There are thousands of competitors in this highly-fragmented market vying to entertain consumers and low barriers to entry for those with great experiences. Our growth is based on how good our experience is, compared to all the other screen time experiences from which consumers choose. Our focus is not on Disney+, Amazon or others, but on how we can improve our experience for our members.”

Netflix recently announced a new feature that parents might love.

Report: New York Supermarkets Pull Ben & Jerry’s Over Israel Boycott

Since Ben & Jerry’s announced their plans Monday to boycott “Occupied Palestinian Territory” when its local franchise’s license runs out in December 2022, several supermarket chains that have also announced their plans to start pulling the ice cream company’s products off its shelves in New York, according to World Israel News.

Seasons, an upscale kosher supermarket chain located in New York and New Jersey, sent a message to customers Monday. They said, “Seasons has removed all Ben and Jerry’s products from all its stores as a result of the ice cream maker’s decision to cease sales in parts of Israel. We stand with Israel. Always.”

Morton Williams Supermarkets board of directors met Monday evening, according to the New York Post to discuss and agree to “reduce the Ben & Jerry’s products it sells in its 16 stores by 70 percent.” The board also agreed to stop promoting the ice cream company in the weekly circulars and put the products in the “least desirable locations,” co-owner Avi Kaner told The Post. “You’ll be able to find the product, but you’ll have to look for it,” Kaner said.

Kaner hopes the company’s partial boycott with creating a domino effect to send a “strong message.” He added, “Of all the places in the world to boycott, Ben & Jerry’s has chosen to target the one Jewish nation in the world.”

World Israel News continued:

Others outraged at the anti-Israel message are also thinking in broader terms. In a move that would automatically remove B&J from the shelves of all stores that serve a high percentage of Orthodox clientele, social activists have begun calling KOF-K Kosher to ask that the organization pull its kashruth certification from the ice cream. They are also requesting that other certifications refuse to service Ben and Jerry’s as substitutes.

“Aron’s Kissena Farms in Queens, and Glatt Express Supermarket in Teaneck, N.J., aren’t waiting and announced that they have already removed the ice cream from their shelves in support of the Jewish State,” the report noted. More stores in the New York regions are reportedly also taking the ice cream off the shelves.

“Ben and Jerry’s decision is a shameful surrender to anti-Semitism, to BDS, to all the evil in the anti-Israel and anti-Jewish discourse,” Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid said.

“We will not keep quiet. More than 30 states in the United States have laws against surrendering to BDS that have passed in recent years,” he added. “I plan to go one by one and demand that they enforce these laws against Ben & Jerry’s because they will not treat us in this way without encountering a response.”
